“At the Academy”

Learn to draft blocks. Morning or Evening, the Pattern making course is structured to equip you with the skills to design custom made garments that fit you!This course will teach you the foundations of Patternmaking.

You will understand the tools needed to create patterns, how to take measurements and of course draft blocks. Our fitted bodic block template especially designed by the Academy and manuals are included in the course fee.

To join this course the student needs to have basic sewing knowledge (straight seams, darts, etc.)

Most of the materials you will need for this course are in our patternmaking kit. See the tab below for the full list of supplies. Classes are 3 hours per week.

Progress further with Intermediate Patternmaking where you will learn to draft many more adaptations and designs.

Please note that classes may be full, however you may go on a waitlist by choosing next year and pay by invoice.

You will learn to draft blocks and acquire the skills to create blocks. Also through tutor guided adaptions.

Basic Skirt Block – 3 adaptations to extend your imagination.
Basic Trouser Block – 2 adaptations.
Fitted Bodice Block – 6 dart transfers
Fitted Sleeve block – 2 adaptations.

The maximum class size is 6 students however, the class will go ahead if we have a minimum of 3 students. This will mean that the course may finish a few weeks earlier depending on the number of students in the class.

The course challenged me but it was very rewarding and I would recommend it for those who are looking to upskill their sewing/patternmaking. The course was very insightful and it was very hands-on which works for me. The tools and booklet provided have very clear instructions that you can tell have been really though through. I also found the beginner level suitable for me as a beginner.

I had Sunita as a teacher and she was the best, I literally knew nothing about patternmaking before I started this course and I feel like I’ve learnt so much and now feel comfortable enough to make my own basic patterns and garments at home.
